Stories Behind Monkey King: Hero Is Back
Monkey King: Hero Is Back is a 2015 3D Chinese animated film, developed based on ‘Journey to the West’, which is one of the most famous Chinese novels. This film was a big hit in China, and the artbook that I’ll review today contains the making process of the film.

Stories Behind Monkey King: Hero Is Back is a hardcover book. It has 155 pages, and the size of it is 22 x 19.7 x 1.9cm.
Language & Contents
Since this artbook was published in China, it was written in Chinese. The portion of making process in this book is higher than the artworks, so there are many texts in this book. The contents of the book consist of materials of characters, and film scene images, but this artbook does not particularly classify and feature those. At the end of the book, there are pictures of a film crew, still frames, and some illustrations.
Components
Since all of the images are not being contained in accordance with the specific categories, I’ll just review those at a time. The main factor of the contents is stories about the film scenes, and each of film scenes shows several pieces of still frames with the explanations of them, written at the bottom of it. And also this book shows two things in between some of film scenes. One is the concept arts of the characters, which comprise the most of the two things, and the other is the background arts.
Concluding the review
Today I’ve reviewed the Stories Behind Monkey King: Hero Is Back. As you can guess from the subtitle of the book, this book mainly covers the making process rather than artworks. Since the proportion of film scenes is big, there are many materials of characters in this book, but there are lack of materials of backgrounds and props. Therefore, this might not be worth as a reference to draw arts.
