Pixiv 2016 Official Art Book
Pixiv, which is one of the most famous Japanese online art community websites, has been choosing some of artists of it, publishing a book named Pixiv Official Art Book series containing their artworks every year. Today I’m going to review a 2016 Edition of the series, which contains the artworks of 209 artists of Pixiv.
Standard Book Size
Pixiv 2016 Official Art Book is a paperback book. It has 227 pages and the size of it is 29.4 x 29.4 x 1.8 cm.
Language & Contents
This book was written in Japanese, and the contents of this art book consist of ‘Illustrators’ Portfolios’ and ‘Marketing Report’. Some of you who don’t know Japanese might be concerned about reading this book, but except the Marketing Report part, there are only a few words in the other parts, so you don’t need to worry about reading this book.
Illustrators’ Portfolios
This part features the artworks and profiles of artists of Pixiv, and also you can see the nicknames and the number of pages of each of artists’ artworks in a table of contents in sequence. Each of artists shows their nicknames at the upper left corner of page, their profiles, URLs, software that they use for drawing artworks, tablets, their favorite things, and lastly their portfolios at the right upper corner of page. Some of artists show three pieces of their artworks, and some other artists show six to eight pieces of their artwork. They managed to contain more artworks of artists, since the book size has got bigger starting from the 2016 Edition.
Marketing Report
This part covers the analysis and services, administrated by Pixiv. There are also some marketing data obtained from contests and BOOTH, which were also conducted by Pixiv and survey analysis reports from some of game companies. As I mentioned above, there are written in Japanese, so you might have to make an effort to read this part.
Concluding the review
Today I’ve reviewed about Pixiv 2016 Official Art Book. The most remarkable feature of this book is the book size has got bigger than the earlier official art books. Although it’s more expensive than the earlier art books, and also it’s hard to keep in a bookshelf, since it’s got bigger, but on the bright side, you can enjoy bigger and more artworks. This art book might be worth to purchase, if you don’t care about its size, and also be helpful to you to find some artworks and information about the artists whom you like, since this book contains plenty of profiles and artworks of artists.
