The Review of Dark Souls 2 Design Works

Dark Souls 2 Design Works

Dark Souls 2 Design Works is an art book, which features the contents of RPVG, ‘Dark Souls 2’. This game was developed by ‘FromSoftware’, where the company developed ‘Armored Core’ series. This video game is notorious among game users for its extreme difficulty, since some of famous Korean game BJs (Broadcasting Jockeys) of Afreeca TV who played this game said, ”This game is impossible to clear without continues!” Because of its extreme difficulty, many game users are eager to clear this game.

Standard Book Size

Dark Souls 2 Design Works is a hardcover book. It has 240 pages, and the size of it is 21.6 x 30.2 x 2.5 cm.

Language & Table of List

It was written in English. Each of artworks has its name, and also there are explanations about them. There are interviews of game directors, and information of developing staffs of the game, so if you want to know the contents of those, you might give a try to translate them. The table of list consists of three chapters, ‘Dark Soul 2’, ‘Dark Soul~ The Lost Crowns’, and lastly ‘Special Contents’.

Chapter 1 Dark Soul 2

This chapter consists of five parts, ‘Background’, ‘Boss’, ‘Monster’, ‘NPC’, and ‘Setting of Weapons and Miscellaneous Stuffs’ in many pages. Most of images are concept arts in color, and also there are names of them, so you can easily understand the images. Quantities of images of Background, Boss, Monster, and NPC are similar to each other, except the Setting of Weapons and Miscellaneous Stuffs part, since this part comprises only five pages of the book.

Chapter 2 Dark Soul ~The Lost Crowns

This chapter features the contents of, Dark Soul ~The Lost Crowns, which is a trilogy of episodic DLCs for Dark Souls 2 consisting of ‘Crown of The Sunken King’, ‘Crown of The Old Iron King’, and ‘Crown of The Ivory King’. This chapter shows the concept arts of those three episodes, and equipment. This chapter comprises a few pages of the book, since it only features the contents of DLC of the game.

Chapter 3 Special Contents

This chapter covers the interview of game directors, images of characters, figures of them, and visual title of the game, and lastly the list of developing staffs of Dark Souls 2. Although this chapter comprises a few pages of the book, there are many interviews of game directors, so those are worth to be translated to read I believe.

Concluding the review

This art book features not only the contents of Dark Souls 2, but also dark ambience of the game. Images of backgrounds and monster designs exuding the dark ambience are pretty interesting and unique to enjoy. The thing is that there are no concept images of classes of characters, even though this art book features the contents of action RPVG. It’s a shame that there are no game images in this art book, but it’s still worth to purchase, if you prefer the dark ambient art images, or like Dark Souls 2, since this art book contains dark ambient art images of Dark Souls 2, and contents of DLC of Dark Souls 2.
