缪斯之瞳: 刘远画集
Yuan is a Chinese CG illustrator, who is also known as ‘Lange’. He currently draws illustrations and uploads them on ‘Pixiv’, the most famous Japanese online art community website. The artbook that I’ll review today is ‘缪斯之瞳;’ which contains the artworks drawn after the release of the author’s first artbook ‘Yuan Art Collection’.
Standard Book Size
缪斯之瞳: 刘远画集 is a paperback book. It has 109 pages, and the size of it is 21.5 x 29 x 1.3cm. The ISBN of it is 978-7-5340-4812-8.
Language & Table of Contents
It was written in Chinese, and except the outro and comments about each of works, there are only a few texts in this book. Although there’s no table of contents, but there are chapter pages of each of works, so you can know the titles of works. There are four chapters in this book, Legend of the Cryptids, Fight For Freedom, Mermaid’s Casket, and Line Art.
Components
To classify the contents of this artbook, there are three categories of illustrations, game illustrations, author’s personal artworks, and line arts. Since Legend of the Cryptids and Fight For Freedom are both android platform games, the first two chapters show the game illustrations. FIY, there are pages of ‘Illustration Explanation’ written at the latter part of the book. These pages feature that the ‘Fight For Freedom’ chapter actually contains two illustrations, and it also covers a new chapter named ’Exercises’ which was not mentioned at any pages before the pages of ‘Illustrations Explanations. The point is why the second chapter, which actually covers only two illustrations, also contains the illustrations from the ‘Exercises’ part like those are parts of the second chapter. Maybe it might just be my imagination, but still, something doesn’t add up. Anyway, after those two chapters, rest of the chapters consist of the author’s personal artworks; The ‘Mermaid Casket’ chapter features some artworks which have a little bit different style from the author’s usual artworks. The ‘Line Art’ chapter features illustration sketches; those sketches are just sketches of some of complete images from the earlier chapters.
Concluding the Review
Today I’ve reviewed the缪斯之瞳: 刘远画集. The components of this artbook are pretty similar to the earlier artbook, Yuan Art Collection. One thing that is different between this book and the earlier artbook is that unlike the earlier book, this artbook contains illustration sketches instead of drawing processes of illustrations. Since the portion of illustration sketches is pretty high, people who wanted to enjoy more of complete illustrations might be disappointed with this artbook. Still, this artbook might be a good reference to draw both quality complete illustrations and illustration sketches.
