The Art of Evolve is an art book of co-operative FPS video game ‘Evolve’. This game was developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the game company developed Left 4 Dead series. Just like Left 4 Dead series, ‘Evolve’ adapts a ‘4v1’ asymmetrical structure.

It was written in English, and there are some explanations about artworks, so you might need to translate them, if you want to enjoy the artworks more in detail. Except the introduction and epilogue, the table of list consists of six chapters. You can enjoy the many artworks of each of six chapters.

Creatures: The Fauna of Shear
There are two kinds of monsters in this game, ‘Creatures’ and ‘Monsters’, and this chapter features about creatures. This chapter comprises a few pages of the book, and it shows the images of several kinds of creatures from four different backgrounds, two pages for each of four backgrounds. The images in this chapter mainly are 2D color images and monochrome images.
Hunters: Character Design
This chapter features the contents of hunter characters, who hunt the monsters. There are design images of various kinds of characters of each of four different classes, and also there are images of weapons. Additionally, those weapons are obtainable at the latter part of the game.
Locotech: Outfitting a Savage Planet
This chapter shows the images of backgrounds, which are different from the backgrounds featured at the second chapter. The backgrounds images in this chapter feature residences, unlike the backgrounds images in the second chapter featured natures. There are images of two kinds of transportations, ‘Space Transportations’ and ‘Ground Transportations’. This chapter comprises a few pages of the book just like the first chapter.
Monsters: Prototypers to Predators
Lastly, this chapter features the images of three different monsters, ‘Goliath,’ ‘Kraken’, and ‘Wraith’, existences fighting against the hunters. Just like the fourth chapter, there are art images of 2D and 3D. This chapter also comprises the few pages of the book even though it has more pages than the fourth chapter.

So far, I’ve explained about The Art of Evolve, which contains the contents of co-operative FPS video game taking place in a SF world. Since the story of this game is about a confliction between monsters and hunters, so the chapters, which feature about the hunters, and monsters comprise the most of the pages of the book. Although there are some explanations in English, you can know the story of the game without translating. You can imagine the story by enjoying the images, since most of images in this art book describe a confliction between the hunters and monsters, occurred in several ecosystems. Mentioning about the second chapter again, there are large-scale concept arts, but you might feel disappointed, if you wanted to enjoy more detailed concept arts. Bottom line, this art book is worth to purchase, if you want to enjoy the many images of characters.
